Minutes of the June 10, 1999 Meeting

 

Present:  J. Heinrich, S. Heinrich, T. Koenig, D. Miller, W. Morrison, M. Morrison.
               School Board Liaison P. McGrath arrived late.

S. Heinrich called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.

S. Heinrich announced that the School Board would be reconvening the High School Space Needs Committee to consider using the �Claremont money� to fund the high school additions.  He requested that T. Koenig and D. Miller continue to act as representatives from Planning and Building Committee.  A short discussion about  funding proposal possibilities ensued.
 

Capital Improvement Plan

The main order of business was looking at the current Capital Improvement Plan and proposing changes.  P. McGrath arrived during the discussion.  On a motion from T. Koenig, seconded by J. Heinrich, the committee unanimously recommended the following changes:
Land Acquisition

Move $1,000,000 to 2002-2003.

Building/Physical Plan

DW- Kindergarten: Change name to New Elementary with Kindergarten, change amount to $6,000,000 and put in 2002-2003.
MHS Window replacement:  Leave at $5,500,00.  Leave in 1999-2000 if Special School District Meeting is held; otherwise, put in 2000-2001.
TFS Sewer: no change.
MMS Roof: completed, eliminate.
Maintenance Shop: no change.
SAU Vault/Office: move to 2001-2002.
MHS Field Amenities: no change.

Roofs/Roads

Paving: Change name to MES/MMS Parking Area, change amount to $200,000 and put in 2001-2002.

Some of the issues raised during the discussion were how much land does the district need in order to meet the needs of the population projected in the town build out study, whether there will be another state wide plan to fund kindergarten, the cost to meet the Y2K technology needs, whether some or all of the proposed athletic field amenities could be funded through private sources and finally, when and where a new elementary school will be needed.
 

Next Meeting

 The next meeting will be held on July 13 at a location to be determined.
 

Public Participation

 Carol Morrison, Maidstone Drive, expressed concern about  School Board members speaking officially about future needs of the district before the School Board has officially determined them.
 

On a motion made by D. Miller and seconded by all, the committee voted unanimously to adjourn at 9:05 P.M.
