Excused: J. Heinrich, S. Heinrich

The meeting was called to order at 7:40 PM by Vice Chair W. Morrison.

Reports/Updates

There was a report from Marge Chiafery regarding the success of the School District Technology Yard Sale. Work has not started on the high school addition. The "Broad Based" committee on school space needs which has been named the Elementary and Middle School Space Needs Committee will be meeting on July 19th . W. Morrison and C. Morrison will representing the PBC on this committee. They will ensure that all members of the broad based committee receive copies of the PBC Preliminary Report. On a motion from T. Koenig, seconded by M. Morrison, it was unanimously voted to ask the School Space Needs Committee to have a special meeting with the PBC. There were concerns raised about the function of the Space Needs Committee: what its specific function would be - would the committee review the work done by the PBC and move forward from there or would they start over.

Work on Draft Report

The committee continued to work on the draft of their final report. The committee received information about kindergarten in general, current status of kindergarten throughout the state and current status of the kindergarten building aid program. There was discussion about a three story building having a smaller footprint and offering better future expansion possibilities. There were questions about the anticipated elementary school building usage for Fall, 2000. The committee felt the report should include a summary of the committee conclusions before listing the options. The committee discussed building a new 5/6 school versus building a new 7/8 school. They further felt that there should be separate section on the "Site Selection." This section would suggest the School Board should give heavy consideration to the Buker Site and cover such areas as past last search review, committee walk of site, currently owned, size of parcel and location of utilities. The committee is still waiting for the survey of the Buker site to be completed. They felt the report might include an appendix called "Possibly Asked Questions." The committee felt it needed information regarding potential renovations to the middle school. There was discussion about the proposed school being part of an overall plan to meet the district's anticipated mid to long term future space needs. It was suggested that the committee might consider including a section on upper elementary school versus middle school versus junior high.

The next meeting of the committee was proposed for August 1st. On a motion from C. Morrison, seconded by T. Koenig, the committee voted unanimously to adjourn at 9:25 P.M.
