Field Plan Update

The clerk reported that Scott Isabelle had received a contract from DiGeronimo which only covered a track. He has several questions and has sent the contract to the school district's attorneys for review. D. Miller asked to be present the next time representatives from DiGeronimo meet with any representatives from the school district. S. Heinrich will contact Jim O'Neil to ensure this happens. S. Heinrich also indicated that he would like to be present at such a meeting. D. Miller also asked for more information regarding the specifications and time lines DiGeronimo put in his bid. Members of the committee wanted to know what is happening about the plan for a baseball field at Mastricola Middle field. There was also concern about the lack of watering capabilities and the resulting poor conditions at some of the district's athletic fields.

Traffic Review Plans

After much discussion and review the committee came up with the following potential suggestions to present for final vote at the next meeting:
  1. Main Campus: Make O'Gara Drive one way northbound and continue McElwain Street one way southbound from 2:15 - 3:15 P.M.
  2. Merrimack High: Enlarge, reconfigure and repave all parking lots to include sidewalks and fencing to direct and restrict the flow of both cars and walkers. Bus students should be dismissed first and all parking lot exits on O'Gara Drive should be blocked until all buses have left the area.
  3. Mastricola Complex: Enlarge the parking circle and reconfigure the parking spaces. Put a sidewalk on the middle school APR side of the road from the back parking lots to the circle.
  4. Mastricola Elementary: Enlarge and reconfigure the back parking lot to include a second entrance/exit at Mastricola Elementary School. Regular bus pick-up and delivery should be through the back parking lot. Parents and special vans can use the circle outside the main office for pick-up and delivery.
  5. Mastricola Middle: Build a limited access bus lane along Baboosic Lake Road at Mastricola Middle School to connect to the driveway. Using this lane each wave of buses at dismissal will fit from Bishop Street along the lane and would not need to enter the circle. This would ensure access to both main offices at the Mastricola complex at all times. Middle School parents should use Bishop Street to access the circle for student pick-up and delivery. Additionally, the church parking lot needs to be plowed right to the fence in the winter to prevent the loss of one row of parking spaces.
  6. Thorntons Ferry: Enlarge and reconfigure the front parking lot to include a sidewalk along the driveway and a specific entrance/exit. (The possibility of making the driveway two lanes with one designated as bus only was discussed.)
  7. Place additional signage at all schools to direct traffic flow.

S. Heinrich told the committee he would get measurements at the middle school. He also said he would try to locate or put together an accurate map which included both Mastricola schools and the high school.

Discussion: 1997-98 Goals and Objectives
