Present: K. Powell, W. Morrison, C. Morrison, S. Heinrich. T. Koenig and School Board Liaison P. McGrath arrived
during meeting.
Excused: M. Morrison
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by W. Morrison.
On a motion from S. Heinrich, seconded by C. Morrison, it was voted 3 - 0 - 1 to approve the minutes from August 22, 2001 to February 5, 2002 subject to correction of any typographical errors.
C. Morrison reported that the Planning Board has given approval of the proposed middle school project conditional on approval of a waiver from the Zoning Board for building in a conservation area. She also noted that building a school is one of the permissible uses for which the ZBA can grant a waiver. The Administration will go before the ZBA on March 28th.
W. Morrison also noted that the Administration will be going before the Selectmen on the March 21st. He also indicated that he, Pat McGrath and Tina Demember would be taping a segment for cable on March 25th regarding the new middle school plan.
W. Morrison reported that he and C. Morrison had attended a Parent Information Meeting at Reeds Ferry that had been very well attended due to a promotion involving a pizza lunch. They would be attending a similar meeting at Thorntons Ferry. They explained that the two issues that seem to come up are whether a new high school would have been a better plan, whether the current high school was overcrowded and how the overcrowding at the middle school will affect the high school.
S. Heinrich asked that the committee revisit the parking plan for the Mastricola complex. W. Morrison noted that the committee also needs to finalize the long range plans determining what student population, rather than year, would trigger the need for a new school.
The committee will meet with the elementary principals regarding the kindergarten plans on March 27th at 7 PM in the high school first floor conference room.
There was discussion about changing which day of the week the committee meets. The second and fourth Monday was raised as a possibility, though there was a concern about Monday holidays. The first meeting after the election was set for April 22nd. W. Morrison that at that meeting the committee would do its annual reorganization.
On a motion from S. Heinrich, seconded by C. Morrison, the committee voted unanimously to adjourn at 8 P.M.
