W. Morrison called the meeting to order at 7:08 P.M. He welcomed the Technology Committee. He noted that each member of the committee had received a copy of the Technology Plan and that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the district technology plan, the technology in 2002-03 budget and the technology that the new school would need.

There was a brief presentation on each school level covering current technology and proposed technology by D. Gibney and M. Merrifield. At the end of the presentation, there was general discussion which included the following questions:

• W. Morrison asked about virtual private networks and inventory control.
• S. Heinrich asked about the security of the proposed laptop computers and commented on public perception.
• Both W. Morrison and S. Heinrich asked whether enough tech support was proposed. W. Morrison suggested that the number of support people be based on the number of servers.
• M. Morrison asked if staffing requests are appropriate for the technology available.
• M. Morrison wanted to know if the proposed new school costs contain the technology that will be included in the building.
• S. Heinrich suggested that some of the technology that is proposed should be phased in.
• W. Morrison noted that in the business world there is usually one support person for every 50 desktop units and there is usually a "help desk".
• M. Morrison asked about outsourcing problems.
• M. Morrison also asked if the new school was going to have or be wired for air conditioning and/or if the building would have air conditioning in areas where clusters of computers were going to be located.

Pam Tinker made a presentation covering what technology the new school should have. There was discussion about a computer lab for classroom work to be placed near the library in both the current Mastricola Middle School and the proposed new middle school.

Additional discussion was based around justifying technology by the time and thus costs saved.

W. Morrison thanked the Technology Committee for meeting with the Planning & Building Committee. He called for a brief recess at 8:55 PM.

At 9 PM, the committee resumed work on the report on the middle school and continued working until 9:40 P.M.

On a motion from M. Morrison, seconded by S. Heinrich, the committee unanimously voted to adjourn at 9:45 P.M.
