ESOL

English for Speakers of Other Languages

In the Merrimack School District, we are committed to providing a high-quality, future-driven education to all students in the community. To that end, the ESOL program in Merrimack endeavors to ensure that multilingual learners develop culturally and linguistically in order to become independent in academic, social and vocational situations. To accomplish this goal, students are immersed in all domains of the language, including speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition, we believe it is essential to support students and their families in adapting to and understanding American culture, while maintaining their unique cultural heritage, as well.

To help ensure that this vision becomes a reality, we have developed the Merrimack School District's Lau Plan, and other anchoring documents, to serve as a comprehensive framework designed to provide culturally and linguistically diverse students with the support and resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
