Community Council

  • School Community Council

The School Community Council at Thorntons Ferry is currently made up of 3 representatives from each 4th grade classroom and 2 Representatives from each 3rd grade classroom. The advisors are Mrs. Irwin, Miss VandenBerg and Mrs. Flanders. The purpose of our School Community Council is to keep the students, staff, principals, parents and community informed of each other’s ideas, needs and opinions. The School Community Council also makes sure that everyone in our school cooperates in the day-to-day responsibilities of being part of a school community that promotes Respect, Responsibility, and Safety.

The Community Council members are encouraged by the facilitators to develop two projects for the year.  One is typically school based.  In the past the Council has created motivational posters to hang in the school and directional signage to assist students in the halls.  This year they helped organize a whole school assembly.  The other project is typically community based.  In previous years they’ve held food/clothing drives and made artwork for senior citizens.  This year the members started a Cards For Kids program.  They’ve encouraged students to create uplifting cards for children in local hospitals.
