    Our Recent Learning:

    Reading:
In June we have begun our work with selecting "Just Right" books and written responses to reading.

    Words Their Way :
We are using this new program for studying words, based on their spelling rules, for improving spelling as well as developing vocabulary.  We work on "sorts" during the week for practicing these words.  Students complete one sort each day in class on Mondays and Tuesdays, and at home on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  We check their progress with a test on Friday to see who might require additional support.   Student lists and groups were determined by a pretest administered at the beginning of the year and mid-year.

    Writing:
Informational Writing is the topic on which we are concentrating in writing. We are writing about important events or people in the American Revolution. This is part of the Writing Workshop program which the District adopted this year.  We are having daily lessons and follow-up practice writing.

    Math:
We are working on Algebraic Expressions and Data.   A good source for information about our math activities as well as opportunities to practice math skills is found on; http://www.everydaymathonline.com.Please contact me if your child loses his or her log on information.  Another good math site is http://gregtangmath.com  Note: Any external links provided on a District-sponsored website, including this site, are provided for convenience.  The District is not responsible for its content.

    Science:
Mrs. Goodman, your child's Social Studies teacher, and I are alternating Science and Social Studies instruction weekly.  Your child will have one week of Social Studies with her, Monday through Thursday.  The following week your child will have me for Science.  This has worked well for both of our classes in the past.
In Science we are studying the Nervous System.
