Fourth grade

  • Art classes are full of fun and learning!  I work on creating a structured setting where students are comfortable to experiment and try new things.  I promote the belief that Art is not just for those traditionally talented individuals, as I believe that all students have an inner artist.

It is helpful for families to prepare their child for Art classes by making sure they wear clothing that is suitable for using any type of materials.  Students will use a variety of art media, some of which can be messy.  I encourage students to avoid wearing their favorite and/or dressiest clothing on the days they have Art.

Students in fourth grade spend time reviewing what is expected in the Art Room.  The application of Respect, Responsibility and Safety is continually reinforced throughout the school year.

Fourth graders will build on their knowledge of the art elements and principles.  They will continue developing their fine motor skills through a variety of activities, and by using a range of materials. Students will visually explore works of art, learning about well known artists, their lives and motivations.

Art classes will also give students an awareness of how art can be found everywhere in our environment.  Students will become familiar with some of the many art careers available to professional artists.

Each spring James Mastricola Elementary School holds its annual Art Show, where every student has at least two pieces of artwork displayed throughout the school  Check the school calendar to find out the date of this year's Art Show. All artwork will be returned at the end of the school year.
