    -          Societies are influenced by education.
    -          Leisure time activities and entertainment serve an important role in society. (Olympics, etc.)
    -          Some societies created self-government.
    -          Cultures are influenced by war.
    -          Societies’ concerns for economic, religious, and security needs were reflected in their architecture.

    Learning Goals

       You will be able to:

    -          understand the difference between government and education in Sparta and Athens

    -          recognize that war can change cultural climate

    -          identify the types of Greek architecture, their impact on modern architecture, and understand how architecture reflects the values of city-states

    -    understand that art, sporting events, and theater developed and represented wealth, prosperity, education, and free time in the city-states (especially Athens)
