    WHEN A STUDENT IS SICK

    •

We greatly appreciate the respect you show for all of us by keeping your sick child at home. Please contact the school when your child is out due to illness (or any other reason). If you have any questions about when they can return to school, please reach out to the Nurse PRIOR to their return. Here are ways to notify the school of their absence:

PREVENTION: Please inform the health office if your child has a contagious illness. Members of our population are medically fragile and "at risk" for certain conditions. The nurse may need to alert them to these conditions so that they can consult with their health care providers.

REPORTABLE DISEASE: Some communicable diseases are also "reportable diseases" ("Reportable disease" means a communicable disease, as defined in RSA 141-C: 2, VI, required to be reported to the commissioner pursuant to RSA 141-C: 7 and He-P 301.02.)

DISMISSAL: Transportation for a sick child is the parent(s) responsibility: Make arrangements to have your child dismissed as soon as possible. The longer a child remains in the health office, the more he/she is exposed to other ailments and exposes other students to his/her illness.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS: A sick child may feel anxious if we cannot locate a parent, relative, or friend. Please list adequate back up contacts in PowerSchool in instances where we are not able to reach a parent/guardian right away.  Update emergency contacts as needed throughout the year. Please contact the Main Office if you need assistance with this.

Please consider keeping your child home if he/she is presented with any of the following conditions:
      • Fever (within the last 24 hours)
      • Persistent, chronic cough
      • Unfamiliar rash
      • Has been vomiting or having diarrhea (within the last 24 hours)

Please note: A child will be sent home with the above conditions. It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to provide transportation.

The updated guidelines for a student returning to school following any illness include:

Must be FEVER FREE (fever is 100.0 or above) for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Advil (ibuprofen) or Tylenol (acetaminophen)

The 24-hour clock starts SIX hours after you administer Tylenol and EIGHT hours after you administer Advil...it does not start when the fever is gone shortly after you give these medications.

Symptoms of illness should be improving/improved and manageable in school.

If you have any questions about these guidelines, please reach out to the nurse BEFORE sending your student back to school!
