Yes, those pesky bugs refer to head lice. There are still lots of myths and misconceptions around head lice, but fortunately there is also some current research to guide evidence-based school nurse practice.
I currently follow the guidelines of the National School Nurse Association and do not exclude children from school for head lice. If your child is found to have head lice while in school, I will call you to inform you but will not exclude your child. I do not do mass screenings at school or send letters home.
