Mathematics, as it exists today, is part of an ongoing process of evolving human reasoning beginning before recorded history. This course explores the origins of mathematical systems, and how disparate systems came together. Students will apply their math skills to problems using methods developed in earlier cultures including Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, India, China, and the Arab world. Numbers systems, multiple bases, reckoning systems, and application of math will be emphasized.

    Prerequisite: 2 credits in math.
